Y2K - Malaysian Powerpop Punk!!!

INTRODUCTION TO Y2K -Blasting onto the local indie music scene in 2002 with their madcap antics, Y2k started off as a punk-rock cover band, converting 80’s and 90’s pop songs from the likes of Wham, Atomic Kittens and Cindy Lauper into punk rock. As the band evolved, more and more original songs entered their repertoire, each member bringing their unique influences and origins into the mix, fusing genres and languages whilst still retaining the pop-punk ethos. After a year of struggling, Y2k have finally finished their debut album, PIZZA SALSA: a blistering barrage of pop, punk rock, hip-hop, metal and ska in English, Malay, French and Japanese. 

ABOUT THE BAND -Y2k have been a staple of the music scene since the band formed, busily playing show after show throughout Kuala Lumpur, Terrenganu, Penang, Melaka, Johor Bahru and Singapore, building up their reputation as excellent showmen. They performed at the Fat Festival in Thailand, Duduluran Rock Fest in Bandung, Indonesia and Rock the World 7 (One of Malaysia biggest annual Rock concert). Y2k also won the regional finals of the Global Battle of the Bands in 2007, becoming the Malaysian Champions for the Global Battle of the Bands. They were also in the top 10 bands in the World Finals at the Global Battle of the Bands and played in the legendary Electric Ballroom in London, England. Not only are they known for their catchy, energetic songs, but also for their hilarious stage repertoire which some have likened to stand-up comedy.

Hermano Grande - After making the terrible mistake of farting in the face of an old gypsy witch in Mexico, the young Malay man was cursed with the powers of Hermano Grande!!! BOTTLECAPT - New Talent All Girl Band From Malaysia

Bottlecapt was formed in 2004. They are all girls-rock chicks band from Ampang which consists of EWIN on 1st Guitar, SHIRO on2nd Guitar, PQOT on Bass /2nd Vocal and ADEQ on Drums.

 

They are into music Pop/Rock/Alternative/Classic Rock. Influenced by The Donnas, Joan Jett, L7, Blondie and KISS. Their first E.P ‘Kerana Dia’ is still in progress. All songs written and composed by Bottlecapt and recorded under Maggots Tune Studio.

Lucky Munky - New Talent SKA/ PUNK from Malaysia

Lucky Munky in the begining start with NUOX and BOJENX at the middle year of 2006. Nuox as a guitarist and Bojenx as a drummer.Just both of them plays for jamming and hobby.At that time they plays music sounds like greenday,the strokes, and little bit touch by nirvana. They plays only just for fun. After Nuox and Bojenx thinked seriously want to construct a band they invite their close friend, Ippo to be the bassist. Ippo interested to join the band. When they get along jamming together Hafixx(Nuox's brother) was invited to be a bassist and Ippo being places as a leads guitar. Mi Scusi - Borneo Horror Rock & Cruel

Initially, Mi Scusi was known as Hysteria and formed somewhere in July 1997 at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, East Malaysia. At their early days, they were categorized as cover band which is only play a cover songs from their idols such as The Misfits, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Rancid, Green Day, & NOFX. In the other words, they are the cover punk band same as many bands out there!!! However, after several years they are getting tired to cover other people’s song in their jamming sessions or even during their stage performances. Then, they started composing their own songs and until today they still keep doing it and yet they never think to stop. For your acknowledgement, Mi Scusi is not MTV friendly type of group with hyper cheeky melody as you always see on MTV, Channel V or whatever you may call it. So, if you are more into bands which are always appear on that channel then you are not in their league. This is because I can assure you that you might not like to hear our tune!!! PSYCROPTIC - AUSTRALIAN DEATH METAL!!!

Formed in Hobart, Tasmania in 1999 with members Joe Haley (Guitars), Cameron Grant (Bass), Matthew Chalk (Vocals), and David Haley (Drums), Psycroptic wrote intensively for the months following their formation, crafting the material for the debut album The Isle of Disenchantment. This album was self released in January 2001 to overwhelming response from the metal underground which helped spread the Psycroptic name all around the world. In support of this release shows around Australia were played across Australia, earning themselves many new fans. 

Much was quiet on the live front in 2002, due to the decision to work hard on material for the second album The scepter of the ancients. Recording started late in 2002, with the final touches being added in early 2003. Again self financed, a suitable international licensing agreement was reached with US label Unique Leader which allowed many new people to hear Psycroptic for the first time. 

Extensive touring around Australia was undertaken is support of the album, which included the national support slot for Incantation as well as appearances on well known metal fests such as Bloodlust and Metal for the Brain. New material began to take shape throughout early 2004, as well as touring with label mates Deeds of Flesh across Australia in July. Following this tour a 23 date European tour was undertaken with Dismember exposing the band to many new fans. Unexpectedly original vocalist Matthew chose not to tour, which meant searching for a fill in at short notice. Jason Peppiatt rose to the task, perfecting 8 songs in a short amount of time proving he was a talented and dedicated musician. 

Following the European tour, several shows were played with Matthew returning on vocals. However, ongoing disharmony and tensions resulted in the rest of the band asking Matthew to leave in March 2005. In April 2005, Jason was asked to join Psycroptic. Jason beyond proved himself as a vocalist to enthusiastic Australian audiences when the band toured with Hate Eternal on their June Australian tour. 

Symbols of Failure was released in February 2006, and followed up the release with several Australian nation tour and 2 european tours in support of the album, with some of metals biggest names: Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Nile, Kataklsm and Behemoth. Willowtip Records re-released Symbols of Failure for the North American market in late 2007, and the band will tour this region for the first time in 2008. 

Psycroptic are now hard at work writing the follow up to "Symbols of failure".

INCISOR - SARAWAKIAN DEATH METAL BAND!!!

The band was formed back in late 2005 when Voon (drums) met Jan (guitar) and they rehearse for several times a week. At the time, they don’t have bassist and vocalist. Lastly, they’ve decided to form a serious band. Later they met Ben (vocal) whom from the same school with Jan. During rehearsal, they met Abon who fill up the position as guitarist and Jan switched up to bassist. The band was called ‘Greed Killing’ and lined up by Ben (vocal), Jan (bass), Abon (guitar) & Voon (drums). Later the band change their name to ‘Collateral Damage’ and play their first gig ‘Number of the Beast: mini show’ on 6.6.2006. But the line up doesn’t last long. Due to some misunderstanding, Jan left the band. The 3 line up remains and once again change their name to ‘Cranium’. During Cranium days, they’ve composed two songs for Cranium, but never were released. Due to Abon’s commitment problem, Voon and Ben decide to leave the band.

After struggling for a while, in late 2006 Jan finally make decision to re-join the band. ‘Incisor’ was formed. They also bring in Mirul as guitarist who’ve been friends for many years. He rehearses several times with the band but also got kicked out due to his commitment concern. Since then, Incisor plays as 3 piece and currently lined up by Jan (guitar/bass), Ben (vocal) and Voon (drums). Based on heavily death metal influenced, the band thought is was about time to put out their first self-titled demo CD which include 3 songs – ‘Bless the Cursed One’, ‘Chamber of Death’ & ‘Boundless Damnation’. Lyrically, Incisor varies between mere atmospheric depressive thought which are mainly generated by unbound natural chaos, and its demonic ferocity. What’s more important, the band was ready to give full blasts to true death metal listeners!!!

Personal Update from Wennie

Hello Everyone!I was moved to rehab this morning around 8 am, and am excited. Two weeks ago I was in the ICU, just last week I was allowed to eat nectar thick liquids and solids. Today I passed my last swallow test and now I'm allowed to have thin liquids and ice creams. I feel like I'm making a lot of progress, each day I have a little bit of improvements and it's a good thing. :) My walking is getting better everyday too!

Saving the wild orchids of Borneo

An Efforts underway to save thousands of orchid species from extinction

KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA-- Borneo (Kalimantan) is the third largest island in the world. It is rich with a variety of indigenous orchid species that grow in the forests. Borneo's rain forests are also home to some extremely rare species of orchids, all highly valued for their exotic aromas and aesthetic beauty. It has been estimated that 2500 to 3000 orchid species grow in the forests of Borneo.

Borneo's orchids are also endangered, a result of the loss of natural habitat from fire, forest damage, and illegal logging. Increased exploitation of the forests of West Borneo, including gold mining and illegal burning, has led to the certain extinction of hundreds of orchid species. According to a Global Forest Watch 2002 report, Indonesia is experiencing one of the most dramatic losses of forestland in the world. Reports showed that at the current rate of loss, Borneo's forests could vanish completely by 2010.

Economic factors, including illegal collecting and selling of wild orchids by domestic or foreign "orchid hunters", along with increasing consumer demand for orchids, also contribute to the endangerment of Borneo's native orchids. Compelled by concern for the demise of Borneo's native orchids, Chairani Siregar of the College of Agriculture at the University of Tanjungpura (Indonesia) undertook a 3-year study to locate and record endangered native orchid species in West Borneo. According to Siregar, "until recently, there were few records kept of the orchids native to West Borneo. For this reason, research was conducted to identify and create an inventory of all orchid species that exist (in West Borneo) before they and their habitats become extinct. The study was done in 10 counties and one municipal city in West Borneo. Orchids found were identified and recorded by species. A total of 197 species of orchids were identified."

Siregar is committed to cultivating all vulnerable and endangered species of orchids before they become extinct, adding that "local government intervention and participation in conservation, cultivation and marketing of orchids are necessary" for the popular flowers' survival.

Terrorism? What it is?

What is terrorism? According to Book Of The International Library Of Criminalogy, Criminal Justice and Penology : Terrorism by Conor Gearty, “ Terrorism consists of violent actions carried out for political or other social purposes, including some large scale mercenary purposes, by individuals or groups, having an aim which might be either good or bad, but carried out by means of :

1. Attacks on innocent or neutral or randomly chosen people.

2. Using means which involve atrocities eg.torture, cruel killings, or multilation of the living or the dead, committed against randomly or non-randomly chosen people who might be either innocent or not.

” Terror can occur without terrorism, and that terror is the key to terrorism. The suffix “ism” refers to a political philosophy, or a manner of acting or an attitude. Psychologists define the psychological condition of terror as extreme fear or anxiety. Though terrorism is real, not an imaginary danger. It is an unexpected danger. Terrorism affects the social structure and the individuals, and it may results in disorientation in our society. Terror is a constituent of many ordinary crimes. 

There are some potential causes of terrorism, which are the rising population, increased poverty and scarcity of resources, racial tension, inflation and unemployment, increased tension between the “have” and “have not” nations, waves of refugees shoved about by wars, immigrants moving from poorer states to wealthier place, rapid urbanization, the disintegration of traditional authority structures and many other causes. Terrorist groups have obliged corporations to pay them “taxes”, provide free food and medical supplies to the poor. In their mindset, they often over simplify complex issue to black and white. They have many pent-up concerns about an individual’s inability to change society. They believe in self-righteousness in their own rectitude. They are often lonely people who use religious or political ideals to interest political recruits. Terrorism always threats to person and property. They act in terror in many ways, for instances, hijacking, personal attack and intimidation, kidnapping, arson and sabotage, bombing, hoax bomb and so on. Now, the threats of cyber-terrorism are frighten. Information in many ways is the keys to waging this war on terrorism and probably to winning it. 

So, let us rethink about the issue of war against Iraq and the tragedy of attacks on America. The Bush administration is considering on attacks on Iraq, intended to end the reign of Saddam Hussein by involving 250,000 mostly American troops. The costs of invasion at anytime will be thousands of American casualties. There are two reasons for the war against Iraq, firstly is to disarm Iraq of the biological and nuclear weapons of mass destruction and secondly is the option that Saddam is a terrorist and a dictators and a crazy evil man. The US admits openly that it wants to seize control of the Iraqi oil fields and put in a caretaker government. However, Saddam believed in power and patronage. They could inspire terror but their ambitions are limited. In contrast with attacks on World Trade Centre in America on 11th Sep 2001, the warriors of al-Qaida is hatred and the movement is more psychological than religious or political. Osama bin Laden and his acolytes have taken suicide bombing. The bombers and the man who sent them on their mission were “true believers”, they did not allow idea of compassion or humanity, for themselves or their victims, to intrude into their mind. They use the violence as a “holy” end in itself. Poverty and oppression are often as reason why they act terrorism but why a group of essentially middle-class Arab men would embark on the biggest suicide mission? It was an ultimately pragmatic psychology, and an historian Michael Ignatieff has called the “apocalypticnihilism” of man with no political programme, only a desire for the destruction of their enemies in a war. They were educated and capable of studying and holding down jobs. They were able to present normal façade that their planning and preparation for the crime of “Tragedy 911” went entirely unnoticed.

The charisma of bin Laden had united these educated men. To them, he is a military or religious superstar. He teaches them that the mind of new “super terrorist” must be immune to pity and need not be concerned with political compromise or worries about the taking of human life. In the world and words of him: “In the name of retaliation there are no innocents.” He offered a simple solution to the humiliation and sense of injustice like giving them a reason to live, a reason to die, a cause and also a promise of paradise in the afterlife. He seeks a world rid of enemies. He does not seek an accommodation with his enemies but desires to kill them until they bend entirely to his will. This is what we call psychopathic behavior, which means that one man’s vision for the control of human destiny. He can present himself as a messiah for an oppressed and humiliated. He has forsaken wealth and power for an ecstasy of righteousness. These oppressed citizens of the Islamic world felt all these things and believe that American are the root of all international evils. His movement belongs in an anti-rational universe, where emotion triumphs over reason, a world where anything is possible in the name of righteousness. The childhood may shapes the minds of terrorist leaders. For instance, bin Laden was a son of his father’s seventh wife and many in the family group called her ‘slave’ wife. He were proving to himself repeatedly the extent of his worth. By other words, a man trying to control his world. Our formal prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohammad mentioned that “Terrorist are not people who advertise their intention to commit acts of terror. They are not usually soldiers in uniform, although some can be. Usually they are unrecognizable until their terrible acts.” I am totally agree with that statement. Their evil deads have a purpose. They would not willingly kill themselves in the most horrible fashion on Sep 11 if is not because they believe there is a purpose for their suicide. Iran, Iraq and North Korea have been labeled as the ‘axis of evil’. It is time we rethink. Oppressing people or destroying their countries will not solve problems. We have to get away from our old culture and values and reinvent our civilization. The attack on the World Trade Centre on Sep 11 is not an attack on US alone. It is an attack on the whole world. 

What Malaysian government do? We did not just fight them with arms, or chase them into jungles and out of Malaysia. We carried out a campaign to win their hearts and minds of the people so as to ensure that the terrorists lost their civilian supports. We study the causes of the disaffection of these terrorist and their supporters and we took remedial action. The causes of the anger and frustration of the terrorist must be studied and action taken to remove these causes. Once the causes have been removed, support for the terrorist will be much reduced. I believed that if there is no Palestinian issue, if the Palestinian are not being oppressed and children being killed, the anger of the Arabs and Muslims would not be there or would be much less. Certainly there would not be willing to kill themselves in that horrible fashion on Sep 11. Those who hijacked and crashed the aircrafts are not fanatical illiterates, they come from the richer Muslim countries. They married and have wives and children. They knew the course they are taking would separate them permanently from their families, friends and a good life. And yet, they are prepared to die in a horrible fashion as they steered their aircrafts towards the World Trade Centre. We need to understand their mind and their mentality. We want to understand the reason why they did this. 

As a conclusion, we must determine who a terrorist is. A terrorist is a terrorist to all and everyone at all times, they are not regarded as noble freedom fighters by some others. We have to learn to understand their psyche if we want to deal with them, to counter and to eliminate them. We want to stop the terrorism. A terrorist should be outlawed by the world, hunted, captured, tried and appropriately punished, even if he is fighting against oppression, against terrorists themselves, using acts of terror.

fisherman's friend

Recently I found brand new hobby beside my incurable music obsession. I am so crazy about fishing right now. It was happened so sudden due to dysfunctional most of my creative idea  in order to compose a new song for my Horrorock band called Mi Scusi. 

In the early phase of developing my new hobby, I was started by following several of my friend who take the fishing activity seriously as a spectator. Then one of my friend called Sadam (not Sadam Hussien) ask me to do some favor which helping him to hold his fishing rod. Suddenly, I feel some reaction a he ask me to give a shot. As a result, I have my first catch of small prawn and I feel so excited about it. This was leading me to my own fishing rod!!! To be continue...

Guru, Cikgu & ...

   Sebagai pembayar cukai, saya melihat profesion perguruan ini adalah satu bidang yang bertaraf profesional. Seseorang guru itu seharusnya bersikap lebih professional dan matang dalam menunaikan tanggungjawabnya sebagai seorang pendidik anak bangsa. Sebagai seorang professional, seorang guru juga sewajarnya menghindarkan sebarang tindakan yang terlalu mengikut emosi dalam menangani isu disiplin murid di sekolah. Memang diakui seorang guru itu juga seorang manusia, tetapi golongan pendidik ini sudah diberikan latihan dan diiktiraf oleh kerajaan. Ini samalah seperti kakitangan awam lain yang bertaraf profesional seperti anggota polis dan doktor. Cubalah anda bayangkan jika seorang anggota polis bersikap emosional dalam menjalankan tugas, sudah pasti mengundang pelbagai masalah yang serius. Bersyukurlah hal sedemikian setakat ini belum ada lagi yang dilaporkan. Janganlah juga diungkit perihal gaji dan elaun. Boleh dikatakan semua kakitangan awam mendapat gaji yang setimpal dengan tugas mereka, tambahan lagi dengan dengan kenaikkan gaji yang diumumkan oleh kerajaan baru-baru ini. Ini adalah lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan pendapatan kakitangan sektor swasta.

            Sebagai seorang guru, tidak seharusnya mengeluh dengan masalah-masalah yang berlaku di sekolah. Kerana semua masalah tersebut sudah menjadi asam garam dalam usaha mendidik anak bangsa. Saya percaya bahawa setiap guru yang sudah dilantik sudah terikat dengan satu kontrak dengan kerajaan untuk menjalankan tugasnya dengan baik.

            Walaubagaimanapun guru tidak harus dipersalahkan sepenuhnya. Hal ini kerana tahap kesabaran seseorang itu ada batasnya. Saya juga pernah menjadi seorang murid dan mengetahui senario murid tidak menghormati guru ialah satu realiti. Dalam situasi ini peranan ibu bapa sangat penting demi untuk memperbaiki kualiti pendidikan dan generasi masa depan negara. Pihak ibu bapa tidak sepatutnya menyerahkan bulat-bulat tanggungjawab mendidik dan mendisiplinkan anak kepada guru di sekolah, kerana akhlak yang mulia dan disiplin adalah bermula dari rumah. Mengikut pengalaman saya selaku murid, rakan-rakan yang terbabit dengan masalah disiplin biasanya adalah datang daripada keluarga yang kurang prihatin kepada kebajikkan mereka.

            Oleh itu janganlah kita menuding jari kepada satu sama lain kerana ini tidak akan memperbaiki keadaaan. Adalah lebih baik kita memikirkan dan segera bertindak untuk menyelesaikan masalah ini demi untuk kebaikan pihak guru, murid, ibu bapa, masyarakat dan negara.

            Disini sukacita saya untuk mencadangkan beberapa langkah-langkah yang mungkin boleh digunapakai untuk menyelesaikan masalah ini;

1)      Melantik seorang penyelia khas/warden bagi menguruskan hal-ehwal pelajar asrama. Tugas penyelia ini adalah terhad kepada hal ehwal asrama tanpa pembabitan dalam bidang akademik. Ini boleh mengelakkan lebihan tugas yang sering berlaku kepada guru-guru. Mungkin sesetengah pihak memikirkan ianya adalah satu kos tambahan yang akan membebankan kerajaan, tetapi fikirkanlah faedah untuk jangka masa panjang. Ianya bukan sahaja meningkatkan kualiti didalam perkhidmatan malahan dapat membuka peluang pekerjaan kepada graduan yang menganggur.

2)      Kerajaan perlu meneliti semula garis panduan kepada guru-guru didalam menyelasaikan isu-isu disiplin di sekolah. Ini boleh mengelakkan seseorang guru itu daripada melakukan hukuman yang melampaui batas terhadap murid di sekolah.

3)      Interaksi Persatuan Ibu Bapa dan Guru adalah amat penting didalam menyelasaikan perkara-perkara yang berlaku di sekolah. Ini dapat memberi -gambaran yang lebih jelas kepada ibu bapa akan tingkah laku anak mereka. Dengan ini setiap masalah dapat diselasaikan dengan lebih diplomatik.

4)      Guru Besar dan pengetua sekolah seharusnya lebih bijak mengagihkan tugas luar mengajar kepada guru dan kakitangan. Ini boleh mengurangkan bebanan yang dipikul oleh guru di sekolah. Guru juga sepatutnya bersuara jika mendapati diri mereka mempunyai bebanan kerja yang lebih sehingga boleh menjejaskan emosi.

menurut tajuk di atas dia berbunyi "woiiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ", bermakna ayat tersebut ingin menyanya soalan berkenai, woiiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ Oleh itu woiiiiiiiiiii apa kau buat bermaksud? Þ Menjelirkan lidah dan menjerit woiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ Disebabkan oleh ayat di atas ramai penduduk di Afganishtan telah terkorban kerana Goerge Bush telah menjerit kepada Osama yang berbunyi,"woiiiiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ", disebabkan oleh itu, Osama bin laden pun telah tergamam kerana soalan tersebut yang berbunyi "woiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ "disebabkan oleh osama bin laden telah tergamam kerena diteriak oleh Goerge Bush yang berbunyi"woiiiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ", Osama Bin Laden pun berkeputusan bahawa tuduhan yang tidak berbatas dan tidak mempunyai bukti ini adalah keterlaluan bagi beliau. Oleh itu osama bin Laden pun menyerang balas dengan mempertahankan hak orang taliban dengan senjata rahsianya yang tidak lagi rahsia ini dengan berkata "woiiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ" lalu Gorge Bush yang terkejut oleh kata kata tersebut pun berfikif sejenak "apa betul yang aku lakukan pada orang taliban memang aku tidak mempunyai bukti untuk menuduh Osama bin Laden".

Selesailah cerita "Woiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ", diharap adeq adeq dapat mengambil teladan daripada cerita tersebut iaitu; ayat yang dilafaz boleh mengubah cara hidup adeq adeq. ikutilah cerita selanjutnya yang berjodol "Woiiiiiiiii apa kau buat?Þ(2)" pada sesi yang akan datang.
