U.S. Travel: What kind of idiot dives with sharks?

Diving with sharks is a controversial subject in Hawaii. Proponents cite the educational value of enabling visitors to appreciate the beauty of these wild animals. Opponents cite the potential harm of making sharks accustomed to humans, rendering sharks easier prey for fishing boats and less able to survive in the wild.

It was only when the sharks had a feeding frenzy about 6 feet away from me that the wondrous beauty of Hawaii was eclipsed by a “What am I doing here?” moment.
